Maelstrom, The Banff Centre

Choreography by Andrew Giday, 2003

This production was based on a turbulent, windy narrative moving through several design perspectives; from a stormy watery sea to a 1940 foley sound stage. Water sequences were created with shibori techniques in resist and bound dye fabrication. They were weightless bubbles with maintained very soft structure, even when rolled over and twisted. The backdrops were created int he same manner and materials.
